Photography Unbound

A shot of artistic talent and a pinch of resolve was all it took to let Solve Sundsbo’s beautiful fashion photography turn an imagination inside out.  An understanding of the modern market and an eye for spinning webs of imagery draw attention from an international audience.  Emotion is what makes a photo come alive and speak volumes; Sundsco has managed to capture that.  He uses the human form as an imperative tool of which to spike interest or build upon for fashionable purposes.  It is obvious however that his aim is not to make a woman (or man) look beautiful, but to exude the truth from his subjects.

If you think you have not heard of or seen this artist’s work- trust me you have.  Most likely, if any image on the covers of magazines and other publications such as Vogue, i-D, Muse, etc. has stopped your heart, you know that Solve Sundsbo has done it again.

Radiolab and NPR Present Words

The beauty of clever words, actions, and the human spirit has inspired this post. Stumbling upon this video made me see how creativity can spark from a simple typeface to send our imagination into outer space. Everynone, you clever thing, you are an artist!

TEXTILES! I CAN SEE THE FUTURE! -& IT'S CLEAR... SORTA

Every season trend alerts pop up on every consumer's radar concerning the clothes to wear or what to put in our hair.  But what about textiles? A current Philadelphia University student (previous established as "Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science")  I am surrounded by students who will one day dominate the textile industry. So in the name of Philly and for the sake of art, here is what is new, fresh, and "fashionable" this Spring/Summer 2012
The Primitive Look: Silk, linen, ribbon... all to perfect the disheveled look.

Ten MINI Art Cars in New Book: Wash Me

Art can take our imagination for a ride-especially when it’s put on four wheels!! Mixing a more traditional portion of artistic talent with the beauty of mechanics takes my imagination (and that of many creative kids like me) for a joy ride. I admire the time and talent of artists who some how envision a masterpiece that moves.
Auto Artist at Work
Any artist knows that the paint for an auto and the paint for a canvas are two distinctly different substances. The way they are used and the effects they give are on opposite sides of the spectrum- not to mention that the paint better stick to that Cooper when it zooms at 100 mph. The guys and girls behind these are new kinds of artists. Welcome to modern times.

Recycling and Restyling Unwanted Clothes

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/video/2010/sep/06/fashion-charities-traid-recycling

http://gu.com/p/2jeqt
The first time I hear about recycling fashion I was skeptical, but if plastic water bottles can turn into carpets and clothing, then why not? What would it be like to work on that kind of conveyor belt-receiving old, used, or unwanted clothes, accessories, and ehemm “toys” that can be sold or recreated to be a hot item?
“I’ve got my jacket that I’ve salvaged from the conveyor belt and we are on our way t the design studio to get some tips from the experts to find out about how to customize out clothes and how to basically breathe new life into ruined broken stained old clothes.”

“Leather is the best, it’s the nicest thing to play with…it’s more versatile than other things (when it comes to creating new and desirable fashion).”

Look at the bed sheet lining that was turned into a “frock,” as the English say, with a nautical theme and feminine style! I would like a lesson too!

Defected Ibiza Season 2010...Music to Put on Your iPod

David Guetta, Bob Sinclair, Afrojack, Gregory Salto... The Shapeshifters speak...

A fan of music, I love everything from the steady pump of House to the smooth strings of Spanish guitar. This particular post, however, is dedicated to the fluid and energetic sounds of Dance and House music.  And by the way, there's only two Pasha Clubs I know of, one is indeed in Ibiza, Spain (the Mediterranean is apparently full of sights) the other is in New York City.  I would more than love to travel first class to the Spanish paradise, but the east coast location is much closer to home...  http://www.pachanyc.com/

Passport to Capri, Italy

Can you see the world curve when you look at the ocean? I could when I saw this- it's so breathtaking, I couldn't even believe it came out of my camera!
The neighborhood
Italy is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and I would assume that is a large reason why the country annually receives over 40 thousand tourists per year. Capri, located in the south western portion of Italy sits in the Mediterranean Sea, a ferry ride off the coast of Sorrento. The island is rather small, but walking through the winding towns... the old homes... hidden near the most amazing high-end fashion brands and personally owned boutiques, the island is a like the lemoncello sold on every street- it has taken a long time to create, but with one sweet sip taste, you know it was immediately worth it all.

Piccolo Beach...the view was amazing, as usual
I took it upon myself to explore the island around me after a day of swimming.

Beauty Grows Wild in the Land of the Fashion Jungle

This article is in reference to hair- voluminous hair plus a pinch of wild fashion.  An avid reader of La Republica's Velvet Magazine, I can never get enough of Italian fashion in all of its forms. The diversity in art and culture that spill from these pages beg me to flip through the issue more than once. In the most current issue, voluminous and ethereal hair is photographed everywhere. The big blow out balances the slim, yet bold silhouette. From the European runways to American fashion, trendsetters wearing animal or natural prints and colors will be prowling everywhere this season. Infusing an energetic tone in apparel that can be worn "loudly" to make a statement, or subtlety, is in a  sense, a organic connection between the people and the planet.

You have found fashion's pot of gold when you click on WGSN, a UK based website that a wealth of knowledge on the future of fashion, I am talking about womenswear two years from now, men's fashion forecasts, retail talk, textile industry experts, and color specialists. (Similarly Stylesight is to the US what WGSN is to the British.)

To sweep away from the natural effect, but to keep in rhythm with volume up top, take a look at fashion and music figures such as Natalie Portman, Rhianna, and even musicians from the nifty fifties.  Today, however, the style becomes much more edgy and daring- it also goes hand in hand with the pieces with stripes and spots walking down the runway.
Don't forget your cateye-liner! ;)

In addition to the wild crazy trend, look for volume in your clothing, ladies, pleats and origami like shapes. In addition to this, crochet, cutouts, and floral and elaborations on your accessories and apparel will be showing up for Fall/Winter 2011/2012. If you have not heard it yet, now you have...there's more to come.

Madewell 1937 is the Coziest Thing for Fall

Passing the window of a Madewell store is, for me,  like walking past a candy store with too little money and too big an appetite.  I just had to go inside!

As soon as I did I noticed the new fall trends peeking out from behind the store's unlimited selection of denim.  From bright to deep hues and an assortment of soft to flowy fabrics with a smooth hand, and "please come touch me!" texture was surrounded by beaded gold and silver jewelry, leather accessories, and cute quirky details that resemble the family room you've always wanted in that Better Homes and Gardens magazine.  Not only do I want to try on all the styles of denim, but buy the figurines as well!  As usually, however, I settled...
...I stuck to the classics; the 37's "Modern Vintage Skinny Skinny Jeans" and the "Sail Away Tee."
With a thicker chain actually looped into the neck of the three quarter sleeve shirt, there is no need for a necklace...settle for chunky gold studs and it would look like you're settling at all!  The fabric was more than what you would expect from cotton, the colors were bright and distinct, but the XS (shown here) runs large, as is a standard for all Madewell sizes.  I personally prefer a little room though because I can tuck and blouse, belt, or hang (with slim bottoms that is).  The look is "the artists meets the sea," which actually flows together quit nicely.
The instant I wedged the skinny jeans on I knew they were substantial and ready for the long hall and ware and tear that I require of my clothes.  The legs were very slim, as was the waist, but the booty and waist had a bit more give.  I have an athletic shape so I am always carefully when it comes to skinny jeans, however these were worth it! Shop online or call for store locations.  The employees are trained to give YOU the service THEY would want themselves (trust me, I once worked for J. Crew ;D)

An Imagination is for Getting Lost In- Here's How

Art and literature stick together like peanut butter and jelly.  The photoshoppping above is my own creation, but I have to give credit to  the author Julio Cortazar- a brilliant mind like this shouldn't be kept in the dark.  Exercise your brain as much as your gluts and read up! http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53413.Hopscotch
